Orlando Pirates forward Vincent Pule has admitted he needs to add more goals to his game, despite his strike in the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs recently.
Pule is a late call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad to face Sao Tome e Principe in back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Durban and Port Elizabeth in the coming days.
He netted against Chiefs in the MTN8 semifinal, first leg, as The Buccaneers romped to a 5-0 aggregate success, and having provided a disappointing three goals in the 2019-20 campaign, he hopes it is just the beginning.
“Scoring goals, especially in the Derby, is a great feeling,” he said. “It is just the start of the season, but I am hoping for the best. I have to add more than last year to my goals.
“I struggled a bit with injuries [last season,] some games I played with injuries. But I kept going. I said, ‘I am not going to stop because of minor injuries’.”
Pule could earn his first cap since a 1-1 friendly draw with Paraguay in November 2018, adding to the two he has so far.
“I’m excited, and proud to play for the national team. It is always great to be here with the guys.
“It is great to be here with the overseas guys and for me I feel like I am here to add value to the team and hopefully I get a chance to play.
