LIMPOPO- The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned the incident in which a 40 year old biological father of a 15 year old girl and the alleged boyfriend of this minor, aged 25 were yesterday, 27 October 2020 arrested for rape and statutory rape.
It is alleged that this father from a Village in the Giyani policing area, went out to look for the victim after she left home since Saturday, 24 October 2020. He then found her at her boyfriend’s place. Immediately after that, he took her to the police station to open a case of statutory rape.
The police then informed the local social worker for further assessment. It was then revealed that the victim’s father also raped her on separate occasions in 2019 and 2020 and there after threatened her not tell anyone. Both suspects were then arrested immediately.
“As we continue to fight against the scourge of Gender Based Violence including the sexual offenses, it is very disturbing that even those meant to protect their own children are also involved in these crimes. We commend the police for acting swiftly in arresting both suspects ,”Concluded General Ledwaba.
The suspects will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 October 2020 facing a charges of rape and statutory rape.
