Limpopo Premier saddened by the ongoing killings of people and gender based violence in the province

LIMPOPO- Limpopo Premier Mr. Chupu Matabatha is deeply saddened by the ongoing killings of people, including killing of police officers in the province.

During October 2020 alone, police reported 5 cases that involves Police killing, in Dennilton, the SAPS is investigating a case of murder following the brutal killing of Colonel Seroka, Groblersdal Police Station Commander, who was shot and killed outside his house at Maganagobuswa.

“Please allow me to pass my heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives and friends of all the people who have been brutally murdered recently.

The provincial government is deeply saddened and disturbed by the growing number of reports of people being killed by the other. I am calling on all family members, relatives, friends, churches, NGOs, Traditional Leaders, community members and all peace loving people of Limpopo Province, to take care of one another. We have so far, had to endure the hardship of senseless killings. Our message is that these killings must stop and stop now.

It is our collective responsibility to look out and help each other during difficult times as we also do during good times. We repeat that One life is One too many” said Premier Chupu Mathabatha.

The Premier also spoke sharply against the mushrooming cases of Gender Based Violence in the province. Therefore, the executive calls upon everybody to go back to our roots and embrace Ubuntu / Botho.

The Premier further called on those who feel overwhelmed by problems and challenges of life to seek professional help which is readily available in public and private facilities, instead of resorting to taking the lives of innocent people.

The Premier calls upon law enforcement agencies to do everything in their power to investigate and arrest all perpetrators of these brutal killings. In the same spirit, the Premier has called on to the courts to hand down harsher sentences to perpetrators.
