POLICE CAUTION COMMUNITIES ON DROWNINGS AS TWO CHILDREN LOSE LIVES WHILE SWIMMING

LIMPOPO- The Police in Seshego are investigating cases of inquest after two children aged 09 and 12 allegedly drowned and the other critically injured while swimming in the river at Bloodriver between Zone 08 Extension and Zone 5, Seshego yesterday, 14 October 2020 in the afternoon.

It is alleged that the deceased and two other boys left their homes without the knowledge of the elders and went swimming in the nearby river. One of the boys reportedly withdrew when others jumped into the water. Shortly afterwards, he then realized they were drowning and ran home to inform the elders.

The community members then managed to rescue one of the boys, the other two had already submerged under the water.

The rescued boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition. The deceased were identified as Siyabonga Maepa aged 12 and Thabiso Maepa aged 09.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has cautioned community members, especially parents and guardians to look after their children at all times.

“As we are already in the rainy season, people are cautioned to desist from entering flooding waters as this is extremely dangerous,” concluded General Ledwaba.
