Three suspects killed after shootout with the Hawks in Marlboro

Three suspects have been killed following a shootout with the Hawks in Marlboro, north of Johannesburg. The crime fighting unit says it received intelligence yesterday about a vehicle which was going to be used in an armed robbery.

With the help of Gauteng Traffic Police and security companies, the vehicle was spotted on the M1 highway. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the suspects opened fire.

A shootout ensued, three of the suspects in the vehicle were killed and a fourth suspect was arrested. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the silver sedan was used in a home invasion in Paulshof about twenty minutes before officers tried to pull them over.

The vehicle had false registration plates and was also involved in a home invasion in Parkview. Two firearms were recovered from the scene, one with its serial number filed off.

The arrested suspect will appear in court soon on charges including attempted murder and house robbery.
