LIMPOPO- An overloaded bus was stopped by police officials on the N1 road between Makhado to Polokwane. The officials got a tip-off from an anonymous caller who was a passenger in the bus, the anonymous passenger complained about the overloaded bus which was heading to Gauteng.
The bus(Phadziri coach) was overloaded, carrying 66 passengers and was contravening with the Covid-19 regulations. The bus driver was arrested for failing to comply with Covid-19 regulations.
Passengers said that they were not sanitized when they entered the bus. The driver paid a fine at Polokwane police station and was instructed to arrange an alternative transport for half of the passengers in the bus.
MEC Lerule-Ramakhaya urges commuters to report any traffic violations and lockdown regulations to assist in curbing the spread of Covid-19.
“I said it last week that none compliance will not be tolerated. We issued fines in Tzaneen for similar violations and people continue to undermine our efforts of preventing the spread of Covid-19.
