Cape Town City eased their Absa Premiership relegation fears with a narrow 1-0 win over Black Leopards at Cape Town Stadium on Friday evening.
Kermit Erasmus scored the only goal of the game to take his personal tally up to nine for the league season.
Victory moves City up to ninth place on the log standings, six points clear of the relegation zone. As for Lidoda Duvha, a sixth successive game without a win and a fifth defeat in six leaves them in 15th place.
City showcased their intent from the onset and came close to opening the scoring in the eighth minute, only for Roland Putsche’s attempt to be cleared off the line.
The Citizens would conjure another gilt-edged chance on the cusp of halftime and after Erasmus watched his attempt canon off the post, Thabo Nodada failed to beat the man on the line with the rebound.
The deadlock finally came for City on the hour mark as Nodada teed up Erasmus who nodded home from close range.
Leopards pushed forward in the closing stages as they went in search of the equaliser, but City’s defence held firm to secure all three points and a much needed morale boost for the Cape club.
