Nigeria announce squad to face Bafana

Nigeria have announced their 23-man squad to face Bafana Bafana next month with fit-again John Obi Mikel’s omission casting doubt over his international future.

Mikel, 31, has appeared to be a victim of coach Gernot Rohr attempting to freshen up his squad with more youthful emerging stars after the 2018 FIFA World Cup shortcomings.

However, without the likes of the former Chelsea star, retired Victor Moses and Leicester City’s Wilfried Ndidi, the Super Eagles are missing vital experience ahead of their trip to Johannesburg.

Odion Ighalo, who scored five goals in the double-header with Libya to move the African giants ahead of Stuart Baxter’s side, returns to the side and will be seeking to add to his overall tally.

Nigeria need just one point from the final two games to secure their ticket to the AFCON finals in Cameroon next year.
